Crafted in conjunction with mixing legend Chris Lord-Alge, the Avantone CLA-10A Limited Edition comprises a pair of active studio monitors that faithfully reproduce an iconic pair of speakers from the last 30 years. The inspiration for these speakers have been found in the rooms of many top professionals and are desired not necessarily for their pleasurable sonics but their accuracy in translation. Make a mix sound good on them, and it will sound good everywhere. This latest limited-edition version features a black walnut veneer that looks as classic as it sounds.

The original was long ago discontinued, but Avantone paired up with Chris Lord-Alge—an avid user of the original—to make sure the CLA-10AM provided the same feel and frequency response. Then, they released a compatible 200W Class-AB amplifier. Now, the company has put the two together into an active pair that recreates the tone of these famed monitors and goes a bit beyond.

Thanks to a VTPC knob on the back of each monitor, you have the ability to simulate different versions of the classic 10 design, going from the vertical version to the horizontal version, and choosing the best tweeter brightness for your particular room. Many monitors these days make use of a Class-D amplifier. This model, however, uses a Class-AB design that operates in parallel mode to deliver the high-power sound of a linear amplifier and at low levels of distortion to boot. Like the CLA-10, the CLA-10A Limited Edition gives you a frequency response of 60 Hz to 20 kHz. They can achieve an SPL of 103 dB.

Original Drivers for the Original Sound The AV10-MHF tweeter dome went through a difficult engineering process to get the exact phenolic resin doping to match the original performance curve. The AV10-MLF woofer uses custom-tooled mechanical parts that mirror the original. Avatone Pro worked closely with one of the original vendors of the original cone to get the exact same stiffness and weight, but upgraded the production process to create machine-pressed cones. Because of this, the CLA-10AM marks the first time that a white cone-style speaker has been made available in sonically matched pairs.

Versatile Voicing
The CLA-10AMs have a VTPC knob (Variable Tissue Paper Control), allowing you to simulate the high-frequency dampening trick used on the original speakers—covering the tweeters with tissue paper. This VTPC allows you to simulate anything from the Vertical M model, to the horizontal Studio model, and everything inbetween. No more debate over the best tissue paper to use—VTPC has you covered. And, you'll save money on tissue paper in the long run.

Old-School Power
Avantone Pro decided to stay traditional with a linear power supply and implementing a massive old-school toroidal transformer in order to maintain the legacy sound. The CLA-10A uses a monolithic Class-AB amplifier. At low power, THD is a phenomenal 0.005% (at rated load it is 0.1%), yielding excellent performance compared to Class-D amps. The system yields a rock solid 200W RMS.

Returns Policy

You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).

You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).

Securely affix your return label to the outside of the shipping package. Return shipping fees are the responsibility of the customer. We recommend you ship via insured ground service with a tracking number. We cannot be responsible for lost packages.

Eligibility Conditions

Please read conditions below. If all conditions are not met, Kellards reserves the right to refuse the return or to charge a minimum 15% restocking fee. All returned items must be in new condition, in their original unaltered box (including an intact UPC code) and must include all packing material, blank warranty cards, manuals and accessories. Kellards can only refund the original purchase price. Shipping and handling fees are nonrefundable.

Once we receive and inspect your item(s), we will credit your account. Please allow 5-7 days for a credit to appear on your account. In most cases, we will issue your refund in the same way you made the original purchase.
